Physiowear

The Physiowear project covered the development of a novel compression short with integrated soft circuitry and textile sensing in 3D knitted garment. The garment used stainless steel yarns for stretch sensing around the glutes and knees to derive the leg and lower back position. This was communicated to a magnetically attached central processing unit at the small of the back.
The processing unit combined the derived soft sensing and gyroscope data to assess user position, and then provide corrective feedback via two removable haptic motors positioned over the hip bones on the garment waistline.
Combining machine knitted garments, e-textiles and bespoke hard to soft interfacing resulted in a low profile undergarment that could provide discrete feedback for posture and back pain management.
